Port Vila

Port Vila is a port town on the island of Efate and the capital of Vanuatu. In 1889 French and other settlers there declared the short-lived commune of Franceville, independent of both Britain and France. It later became the seat of the Anglo-French Condominium of the New Hebrides and, from 1980, of independent Vanuatu.
