Pripet Marshes
The Pripet Marshes are a vast area of forests, wetlands and rivers along the Pripyat River in southern Belarus and northern Ukraine, among the largest wetlands in Europe. Long a barrier to armies and a refuge for their inhabitants, they formed part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. They divided the fronts of the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941.
