Proserpina Dam

The Proserpina Dam is a Roman gravity dam near Mérida in Spain, built probably in the 1st or 2nd century CE to supply Emerita Augusta, capital of Lusitania. An earth embankment faced with a masonry wall some 425 metres long holds back a reservoir that fed the Aqueduct of Los Milagros. Still in use, it is one of the largest Roman dams to survive.
