Persephone

Also known as Proserpina

Persephone was a Greek goddess, daughter of Zeus and Demeter, carried off by Hades to be queen of the underworld. Her yearly return to her mother was linked to the growth of crops, and she was worshipped with Demeter in the Eleusinian Mysteries. Locri Epizephyrii in southern Italy had a celebrated sanctuary of Persephone, and the Romans knew her as Proserpina.
