Persepolis
Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire, located in Fars in south-western Iran and begun under Darius I. Subject nations presented tribute there, as depicted in the reliefs of its palace complex. Alexander the Great occupied it and burned the palace in 330 BCE, and its administrative tablets show the influence of the Elamite Confederation's bureaucracy.
