Psalm 137

during or after the Babylonian exile (deportations from 597 BCE; Babylon fell in 539 BCE) · 6th century BCE · Also known as Super flumina Babylonis

After Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon took Jerusalem in 597 BC, and in the campaigns that followed, people of the Kingdom of Judah were deported to Babylonia, where they were held until some time after the fall of Babylon in 539 BC. Psalm 137 gives voice to that exile.
