Puhar
Puhar, also called Kaveripattinam, was the main port of the early Chola kings at the mouth of the Kaveri River in Tamil Nadu, India. Sangam poems such as the Pattinappalai and the epic Silappatikaram describe it as a busy harbour where foreign merchants traded. Tradition says the sea later engulfed much of the city, and the modern village of Poompuhar stands on the site.
