Karikala Chola
Karikala Chola was the most celebrated of the early Chola kings of the Sangam age in southern India, usually placed in the early centuries CE. Sangam poems such as the Pattinappalai praise his victory at Venni over the Chera and Pandya kings and his patronage of the port of Puhar. Tradition credits him with building the Kallanai dam across the Kaveri.
