Rada of the Belarusian Democratic Republic

1918– · 20th century

The Rada of the Belarusian Democratic Republic is the council that proclaimed Belarusian independence in Minsk on 25 March 1918, under German occupation. It issued a series of constituent charters but could not build a lasting state, and after the return of the Bolsheviks it went into exile. It has continued abroad ever since, making it the oldest government in exile in the world.
