Russian Revolution
The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought down the Russian monarchy and led to the first communist state. The February Revolution in Petrograd forced Tsar Nicholas II to abdicate and created a Provisional Government, which lost support as Russia stayed in the First World War. In the October Revolution the Bolsheviks under Lenin seized power, and their victory in the civil war that followed led to the founding of the Soviet Union.
