Ranggawarsita

1802–1873 · 19th century · Also known as Ronggowarsito, Raden Ngabehi Ranggawarsita

Ranggawarsita was a Javanese court poet of the Surakarta Sunanate, often called the last of the great royal poets of Java. Writing in Javanese verse, he produced historical, mystical and prophetic works, among them the Serat Kalatidha, which laments a 'time of darkness' and is still widely quoted. He also worked with Dutch scholars on the Javanese language.
