Treaty of Giyanti
The Treaty of Giyanti, signed on 13 February 1755, divided the Mataram Sultanate of Java into two realms, Surakarta and Yogyakarta. Brokered by the Dutch East India Company, it ended the Third Javanese War of Succession by recognising Pakubuwana III at Surakarta and the rebel prince Mangkubumi as Sultan Hamengkubuwana I of Yogyakarta. Both courts still exist.
