Trunajaya

c. 1649–1680 · 17th century

Trunajaya was a Madurese prince who led a great rebellion against the Mataram Sultanate of Java from 1674. Allied with Makassarese fighters, he took and sacked the Mataram court at Plered in 1677, and Amangkurat I died while fleeing. The Dutch East India Company intervened on Mataram's side, and Trunajaya was captured in 1679 and killed by Amangkurat II in January 1680.
