Amangkurat II

d. 1703 · 17th century

Amangkurat II was ruler of Mataram from 1677 to 1703, the son of Amangkurat I. To defeat the Trunajaya rebellion he allied with the Dutch East India Company, granting it ports, trade monopolies and payment of its costs. With Company troops he crushed the rebels by 1680 and founded a new capital at Kartasura, but the alliance left Mataram dependent on the Dutch.
