Reinhard von Dalwigk

1802–1880 · 19th century

Reinhard von Dalwigk was chief minister of the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1850 to 1871. After the revolution of 1848 he restored conservative government and pursued an anti-Prussian policy, siding with Austria in the war of 1866 and hoping for French support. Hesse nevertheless fought on the German side in 1870 and joined the German Empire, and he left office in 1871.
