Hesse
Hesse is a region and federal state of central Germany, with Wiesbaden as its capital and Frankfurt as its largest city. In Roman times it was the land of the Chatti, from whom the name of the Hessians is probably derived. It formed a landgraviate from 1264, later divided into Hesse-Kassel and Hesse-Darmstadt, and the modern state was created in 1945.
