River Avon, Warwickshire
The River Avon is a river in the English Midlands that rises in Northamptonshire and flows south-west for about 135 kilometres through Warwickshire, Stratford-upon-Avon and Evesham to join the Severn at Tewkesbury. Its fertile valley lay in the heartland of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia and of its client people the Hwicce, and Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford, stands on its banks.
