River Avon, Hampshire
The River Avon is a river in southern England that rises in Wiltshire, flows south through Salisbury and western Hampshire, and reaches the sea at Christchurch Harbour. Its valley was an early route inland from the coast, and the battle of Cerdicesford, which the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle links with the founding of Wessex, is usually placed at Charford on its banks.
