Charford
Charford is a place on the River Avon in Hampshire, south of Salisbury, usually identified with Cerdicesford, meaning Cerdic's ford. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that Cerdic and his son Cynric fought the Britons there in 519 and took the kingdom, an event treated as the founding of Wessex, though historians regard the Chronicle's dates for these events as artificial.
