Rubenid dynasty

c. 1080–1219 · 11th century · Also known as Roupenians

The Rubenid dynasty was an Armenian ruling family named after its founder Ruben I, who established a lordship in the Taurus mountains of Cilicia around 1080. His descendants extended their power over the Cilician plain, and in 1198 Leo I was crowned king, founding the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. The male line ended with Leo's death in 1219, and his daughter Zabel's marriage brought the crown to the Hethumids.
