Russo-Turkish War (1735–1739)

1735–1739 · 18th century

The Russo-Turkish War of 1735–1739 was fought by Russia, joined by Austria from 1737, against the Ottoman Empire and the Crimean Khanate. Russian armies under Münnich invaded Crimea, burning Bakhchysarai, took Azov and Ochakov and won at Stavuchany in 1739, but losses to disease were heavy. By the Treaty of Niš of 1739 Russia regained Azov, which had to remain unfortified.
