Bakhchysarai
Bakhchysarai is a town in the south-west of the Crimean peninsula. It was the capital of the Crimean Khanate from the 16th century until the Russian annexation of 1783, and its Khan's Palace, mosques and Zincirli Medrese date from that era. In December 1917 it hosted the Kurultai that proclaimed the Crimean People's Republic. Nearby stands the cave monastery of the Dormition.
