Sacramento Valley
The Sacramento Valley is the northern part of California's Central Valley, drained by the Sacramento River. In the 1840s American settlers gathered there around Sutter's Fort, and in June 1846 a group of them began the Bear Flag Revolt against Mexican rule. The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in 1848 nearby started the California Gold Rush.
