Sailendra dynasty
The Sailendra dynasty was a ruling family in central Java in the eighth and ninth centuries, known for its patronage of Mahayana Buddhism. It is credited with building the great Buddhist monument of Borobudur. The Sailendras appear to have been closely connected to Srivijaya in the eighth century, suggesting strong political and cultural ties between Java and Sumatra.
