Sala (Hoysala founder)

Sala is the legendary founder of the Hoysala dynasty of southern India. According to the dynasty's tradition, a Jain teacher at Sosevur cried out to him to strike a tiger that threatened them, with the words hoy Sala, strike, Sala, and his victory gave the line its name. The scene of Sala killing the tiger became the Hoysala emblem, carved on many of their temples.
