Santiago de Querétaro is a city in central Mexico and the capital of the state of Querétaro. Founded in 1531 as an Otomi and Spanish town, it grew into a wealthy colonial centre whose historic core is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Emperor Maximilian was besieged and captured there in 1867, and the Mexican Constitution of 1917 was drafted and signed in the city.
