Sanuki Province
Sanuki Province was an old province of Japan in north-eastern Shikoku, corresponding to modern Kagawa Prefecture. It was the birthplace of the monk Kūkai and home of the Konpira shrine. Briefly conquered by Chōsokabe Motochika before Hideyoshi's invasion of 1585, it was given to Ikoma Chikamasa, who built Takamatsu castle from 1588; under the Tokugawa its main domain was Takamatsu.
