Santoña
Santoña is a coastal town in Cantabria, northern Spain, on the estuary of the Asón river, known for its anchovy canning and its fortifications. In August 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, Basque troops surrendered there to Italian forces fighting for Franco under the Santoña Agreement, hoping for safe passage abroad, but most were handed over to the Nationalists.
