Second Javanese War of Succession

1719–1723 · 18th century

The Second Javanese War of Succession (1719–1723) followed the death of Pakubuwana I of Mataram, when brothers and uncles of his son Amangkurat IV rebelled against the new king. The Dutch East India Company supported Amangkurat IV, defeated the rebels and exiled several princes. The war confirmed the Company as the arbiter of the Mataram succession.
