Selenga River
The Selenga is a river of Mongolia and Russia, about 1,000 kilometres long, which rises in the mountains of northern Mongolia and flows north into Lake Baikal, providing about half of the lake's inflow. Its basin held important pastures and settlements of steppe peoples, including the Merkits along its lower course and later Mongol and Buryat herders.
