Irtysh
The Irtysh is a river of Central Asia and Siberia, about 4,250 kilometres long, which rises in the Altai Mountains in China, flows through Kazakhstan and joins the Ob in western Siberia. Its valley was home to steppe peoples such as the Kimek and the Naimans, and Qashliq, capital of the Khanate of Sibir, stood on its banks. Omsk, Pavlodar and Semey are among the cities on its course.
