Iruña-Veleia
Iruña-Veleia is an archaeological site near Vitoria-Gasteiz in Álava, Spain, the remains of the Roman town of Veleia, which grew from a settlement of the Caristii. It flourished on the road from Asturica to Burdigala and was walled in the late Roman period. In 2006 inscriptions found there, claimed as the earliest written Basque, were judged to be forgeries, and a court later convicted the excavation director.
