Shallum of Israel

r. c. 752 BCE · 8th century BCE

Shallum was king of Israel for one month around 752 BCE, according to the Bible. He seized the throne by murdering Zechariah, the last king of the dynasty of Jehu, and was himself killed by Menahem. His brief reign was one of a series of violent successions that weakened the northern kingdom in its last decades before the Assyrian conquest.
