Shambaa people

Also known as Shambala, Sambaa

The Shambaa are a Bantu-speaking people of the Usambara Mountains in the Tanga Region of north-eastern Tanzania. Farmers of the steep hillsides, they were united in the 18th century under the Kilindi dynasty, whose kingdom dominated the mountains until the German conquest. Their language, Shambala, is closely related to others of the north-east coast.
