Simon of Kéza

fl. 1280s · 13th century · Also known as Simon Kézai

Simon of Kéza was a Hungarian cleric at the court of King Ladislaus IV who wrote the Gesta Hunnorum et Hungarorum in the early 1280s. His chronicle traced the Hungarians back to the Huns of Attila and presented the nobility as the heirs of a free warrior people, ideas that shaped Hungarian historical memory for centuries.
