Simon Kimbangu
Simon Kimbangu was a Kongo religious leader in the Belgian Congo whose preaching and healing in 1921 drew large crowds. Belgian authorities saw his movement as a threat, arrested him and condemned him to death, a sentence commuted to life imprisonment. He died in prison at Élisabethville in 1951, and his followers founded the Kimbanguist Church.
