Skule Bårdsson
Skule Bårdsson was a Norwegian earl and later duke who governed Norway as regent for the young Haakon IV and was the most powerful noble of his time. Rivalry with Haakon grew, and in 1239 Skule had himself proclaimed king. He was defeated and killed in 1240, and his fall is usually taken to mark the end of the Norwegian civil war era.
