Stanisław Leszczyński

1677–1766 · 18th century · Also known as Stanisław I

Stanisław Leszczyński was a Polish noble twice made King of Poland, first in 1704 under Swedish protection during the Great Northern War and again in 1733, when Russian and Austrian intervention in the War of the Polish Succession drove him out. His daughter Marie married Louis XV, and in 1737 he received the duchies of Lorraine and Bar for life, ruling from Lunéville. On his death in 1766 they passed to France.
