The State Research Bureau was the secret police and intelligence agency of Idi Amin's regime in Uganda from 1971 to 1979. Based at Nakasero in Kampala, it arrested, tortured and killed large numbers of suspected opponents, and with the Public Safety Unit and the Military Police it became the main instrument of the terror that marked Amin's rule. It was dissolved after his overthrow in 1979.
