Statielli

Also known as Statellates

The Statielli were a Ligurian people of southern Piedmont, around Aquae Statiellae, modern Acqui Terme. In 173 BCE the consul Marcus Popillius Laenas attacked them although they had not taken up arms and sold the survivors into slavery; the Senate condemned his conduct and ordered their freedom restored. They later became part of Augustus's Ligurian region.
