Liguria

Liguria is a region of north-western Italy along the Gulf of Genoa, between the Maritime Alps, the Apennines and the sea, with its capital at Genoa. It takes its name from the ancient Ligures, whose lands Augustus organised as Regio IX of Italy. From the Middle Ages its coast, the Riviera, was dominated by the Republic of Genoa, and it passed to the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1815.
