Tropaeum Alpium

7–6 BCE · 1st century BCE · Also known as Trophy of Augustus

The Tropaeum Alpium, or Trophy of Augustus, is a Roman victory monument built in 7 to 6 BCE at La Turbie, above Monaco, on the road through the Maritime Alps. It celebrated Augustus's conquest of the Alpine peoples, and its inscription, recorded by Pliny the Elder, lists 45 conquered tribes. Partly restored in the 20th century, its ruins still stand.
