Rhône

Also known as Rhone

The Rhône is a major river of Switzerland and France, about 810 kilometres long. It rises in the Rhône Glacier in the Swiss Alps, flows through Lake Geneva and Lyon, and reaches the Mediterranean in a wide delta in the Camargue. In antiquity it carried trade from the Greek colony of Massalia into Gaul, and many Gallic peoples, from the Allobroges to the Volcae, lived along its valley.
