Rhön
The Rhön is a range of low volcanic mountains in central Germany, where Hesse, Bavaria and Thuringia meet. Its highest peak is the Wasserkuppe, at 950 metres, known as the birthplace of gliding. Much of it belonged to the prince-abbots of Fulda, and it is now a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
