Rhoemetalces III

d. 46 CE · 1st century

Rhoemetalces III was the last king of Thrace, a Roman client ruler of the Sapaean house. The emperor Caligula made him king of Thrace in 38 CE, at a time when Rome governed the region through native princes. He was murdered in 46 CE, and the emperor Claudius then annexed the kingdom as the province of Thracia, ending native kingship in Thrace.
