Rhoemetalces I

d. c. 12 CE · 1st century

Rhoemetalces I was a Thracian king of the Sapaean dynasty and a Roman client ruler from about 12 BCE. Having sided with Octavian before the Battle of Actium, he was made king of a Thracian kingdom that claimed the Odrysian inheritance, and Roman armies under Lucius Calpurnius Piso put down the rising of the Bessi against him. He supported Rome during the Pannonian revolt of 6–9 CE.
