Battle of Actium

31 BCE · 1st century BCE · Part of the Final War of the Roman Republic

The Battle of Actium was a naval battle fought in 31 BCE off western Greece between Octavian and the combined forces of Mark Antony and Cleopatra VII. Octavian's fleet under Agrippa won decisively. The victory led to the annexation of Egypt and the end of the Ptolemaic Empire, and it made Octavian, the future Augustus, sole ruler of the Roman world.
