Ptolemaic Kingdom
The Ptolemaic Kingdom was a Hellenistic state in Egypt founded in 305 BCE by Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander the Great's generals, after the break-up of the Macedonian Empire. Ruled from Alexandria, it combined Greek administration with pharaonic tradition. A long-standing rival of the Seleucid Empire, it ended with Cleopatra VII and Roman annexation in 30 BCE.
