Stavanger

Stavanger is a city in Rogaland on the south-west coast of Norway. It grew around its cathedral, begun around 1125 when the town became a bishop's seat, and later lived from fishing, canning and shipping. Since the 1970s it has been the centre of Norway's offshore oil industry. The Battle of Hafrsfjord was fought nearby.
