1580s · 16th century

Sucevița Monastery is a fortified Orthodox monastery in Suceava County, north-eastern Romania, founded in the 1580s by the Movilă family. Its church, painted inside and out around 1595–1596, has the best-preserved exterior frescoes of the Moldavian tradition, including a famous Ladder of Virtues. It was added in 2010 to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the painted churches of northern Moldavia.
